The United States’ hesitance to arm Syrian opposition against the brutality of the Assad regime’s forces has long been debated in foreign policy circles. Even after a covert CIA program designed to train and arm moderate opposition forces became public knowledge, “monday morning quarterbacking” about the non-decision to arm Syrian rebels continued in earnest. Adam Entous, in The Wall Street Journal, notes that the CIA program is now considered a failure as the DOD begins to ramp up its own training and supply program to arm Syrians against America’s latest enemy – ISIL.
