The infamous “Sony Hack,” during which hundreds of files, emails, and other private documents were spilled into the public domain by a shadowy group known as the Guardians of Peace, caused an uproar in the United States when the FBI announced that the cyber-attack trail had led them to North Korea. The United States has since announced its intentions to retaliate for the hacking incident, with many believing the US to be behind recent internet outages in the Hermit Kingdom.
Ambassador Christopher Hill notes that the United States and China, North Korea’s closest ally, must develop strategic clarity to curb Pyongyang’s bellicose antics in the long term.
