Brian Michael Jenkins, senior advisor to the RAND President, believes that Syria’s bloody civil war will drag on for some time, despite international optimism preceding the Geneva peace talks. Jenkins believes that the tides of war have changed, and that the Assad regime is gaining momentum in the civil war that has wracked Syria for the past two years. What began as a unified rebellion against the harsh rule of Assad has now transformed into a sectarian battle for survival, and Jenkins states that the global community will be dealing with the runoff caused by Syria’s bloody war for years to come.
