    Last year, the U.S. Navy deployed reinforcements in the Persian Gulf to deter Tehran from closing the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage through which hundreds of carry precious fuel products to their intended destinations. U.S. commitments to naval security in the region is set to increase as the number of Littoral Combat Ships by next spring, with crews filling one-to-two year tours instead of six month rotations.
