• Independent Panel Split on Controversial NSA Collection

    An independent panel split Thursday over the National Security Agency’s under-fire phone-data collection program, with a slim majority recommending it be shuttered. The lack of consensus on the privacy board reflected national divisions over government surveillance programs unveiled by former N.S.A contractor Edward Snowden, and some believe that the contested verdict handed down by the board will weaken its final overall recommendations to the president.
