MG Raymond ‘Tony’ Thomas has been nominated to be the Assistant Director for Military Affairs at the CIA. Thomas recently relinquished command of all special operations forces in Afghanistan (NATO Special Operations Component Command – NSOCC-A). From 2010-2012, he was the deputy commander of the Joint Special Operations Command and was instrumental in JSOC’s global activities. Before JSOC, Thomas was the senior special operations officer on the Joint Staff in the Pentagon. Thomas has held various command positions in the US Army, including the Ranger regiment and 1st SFOD-DELTA. He is a 1980 graduate of West Point with 33 years service.
